China Eases Covid Rules for Students to Avoid Tiananmen Linkages

Chinese officials eased Covid restrictions at Beijing universities in recent days to avoid the possibility any protests over virus measures would be linked to the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre on June 4, people familiar with the matter said.
University and local government officials were told to quickly meet the demands of students and calm down any unrest so unspecified “enemies” couldn’t link the protests to the Tiananmen anniversary and exploit the situation to attack Communist Party leaders, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing sensitive matters.
